Job offer to work from home for recruiting company that works for Robert Walters LLC, is it a scam?

I got an email for a job offer to do data entry for finance company out of New York that says that they work for Robert Walters LLC, I was interviewed on instant messenger yesterday and was asked to open a checking account and savings on a Wells Fargo Bank. The hiring manager said I needed to open this account so they can send me money to buy a sofware that I need to do the job. I researched on Robert Walters LLC, and apparently this company is a huge recruiting company. It sounds very legit, I am just curious about the opening of the checking account?
